Arm/Thigh Lift

Thigh lift surgery is a procedure that tightens the thigh skin. Fat can be reduced by liposuction. These are relatively common procedures especially with large weight loss.

Candidates for thigh lifts have loose skin mostly on the inner thigh. This is caused by skin not retracting back after weight loss, pregnancy, or aging. Excess fat can also make the thigh look heavy and reduction by standard liposuction techniques can improve the shape.

One can see the improvement right away. However, the thighs are a mobile area, and recovery is not quick. It may take 3-4 weeks for the swelling to decrease and incisions to heal. Especially with liposuction there may be some chronic swelling and tenderness for months.

With proper diet and exercise the result should be long lasting, but over time there will be some relaxation from the aging process.

What are the surgical options?

The surgical options depend on each patient’s needs.  If just a small amount of skin is sagging in the upper inner 1/3 of the thigh, a removal of the upper inner thigh skin can be done with the scar along the top of the thigh in the crease. Excess skin all the way down the thigh needs a removal from the knee to groin with a long scar vertically on the inner thigh. If there is a lot of fatty tissue and heaviness then a combination of liposuction then skin removal along the inner thigh is the best option.
