BREAST LIFT
A breast lift is also known as a Mastopexy. It raises and re-contours sagging breast skin that has lost elasticity and volume through various events such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, fluctuation in weight and gravity. The breast is lifted by removing and tightening excess skin and tissue, as well as repositioning the nipple. An implant may also be used along with the reshaping, especially if you desire an increase in size. By re-contouring your chest in this manner, Dr. Haupt of Utah Cosmetic Surgery is able to give you the size, shape, and lift of the breasts that more closely resembles what you desire and enhance your profile*.
Sagging breasts are common among women of all ages. This can be due to genetics, poor skin quality, anatomically low sitting breasts, and large breasts, which respond to gravitational effects. There are various breast lift techniques available. Dr. Haupt will individualize the surgery approach at the time of consultation based on the degree of elevation required, the patient’s breast size and the overall skin quality. A breast lift will reduce sagging and improve the appearance and shape of the breast* but there is a trade-off of scarring on the breasts. There is no other way to effectively lift and tighten the loose skin and tissue. The scars are hidden along natural breast contours and will fade to normal skin color over time*. A breast lift can be done with or without implants. One of the procedures available to reverse what time does to your breasts is the breast lift.
While a breast lift (Mastopexy) will elevate and reshape the breast, it will not add volume or round out the upper part of the breast. Women who want more volume can add a breast implant at the time of the breast lift procedure.
Besides breast augmentation, a reduction may also be an option.

The breast lift can be done in an outpatient setting, at a surgery center and occasionally in the office. We use either general or local anesthetic.

After surgery there will be some swelling and discoloration, but this will subside in a few weeks*. Scars will fade after about a year, but may not be noticeable due to the way your breasts are shaped after the procedure*.
When can you return to normal activity?
You will be able to return to your normal routine after a few days*, but strenuous activity and exercise should be put off for at least a month or until Dr. Haupt tells you it is okay.

How is a breast lift different than a breast reduction?
In a breast reduction procedure the goal is to make the breast size significantly smaller – so the symptoms that a heavy breast creates on the neck, shoulders and back are alleviated. In a breast lift procedure it keeps the breast approximately the same size, but tightens up the loose skin of the breast, so the shape is improved giving you a more youthful and uplifted look.
I am a smoker. Can I have a breast lift?
If you are a smoker, It is recommended that you quit smoking 6 weeks before surgery to reduce the risks of smoking related complications. We also recommend no smoking during the healing process.
